It was my fifth year into Software Development. I was a full stack developer working on a Java based framework called Oracle ADF by then. I wasn’t the kind of person who showed curiosity in knowing/doing things or taking deep dive at them. I knew Java and I knew how to develop applications using ADF framework. I was just satisfied with that. I never pushed myself because I always had it in the back of my mind that this profession was not for me and it was not my passion. I’d feel blue and just go around to watch a bunch of motivating TED talks to be normal again.

It was when it all changed, when I had to go through a journey of self-discovery. I’m not going to bore anyone with the details. It made me realize things about myself that I didn’t know or wasn’t ready to know. I was an easy quitter. I quit when things get tough. I never pushed myself harder to get what I wanted but would rather complain when I didn’t get it like a sore loser. Needless to say, it was a devastating blow to my ego as I always thought I was some kinda special. That cathartic experience gave me the fresh start.

It has been 7.5 years since I started working on the software industry and I can very well accept that only for the last couple of years I acted like one.

I’ve become a learner ever since. I started by learning the Java language again and actually enjoyed it. That’s when I got the feeling may be I can do this. It’s been an exciting journey ever since. I know that I’m nowhere near like the awesome developers that we hear and read about everyday. But I’m very happy at where I’m right now considering where I was 2 years ago. I’m in for the long run. There are a lot of things I’d like to learn in the upcoming years with various technologies being constantly under evolution.

I’m positive that having a blog and sharing our thoughts and learnings will enrich not only my life but the ones who read it too. I read blogs of awesome people and get inspired by them. I see a lot of developers sharing their knowledge, enthusiasm and stories with the community and I also want to be a part of this.

My frontend development (HTML/CSS/JS) skills are below par so I had to use the Gatsby Starter Blog project to build the site. I somewhat understood the workflow and tweaked it a bit to suit my taste. I’d like to enhance this site by adding new features. The point I’m trying to make here if someone like me can do it, anyone can. All we need is the will!
